Master of Arts in International Relations

Online Program of Study in
Security Policy

An interdisciplinary examination and analysis of national and international security issues. Course content includes perspectives from the areas of economics, history, and political science.   Issues range from nuclear proliferation and conventional arms trade to narcotrafficking, trade imbalances, environmental conflict and race/ethnic/gender/religious issues.

Students complete a set curriculum of 12 courses with a focus in Security Policy.   Two online courses are offered concurrently each term -- spring, summer, and fall -- in a 16-week format.   Six (6) courses are offered each academic year.   Coursework for the Master's degree can be completed in two (2) years if both classes are taken each term as offered.

The online program is non-thesis, therefore, students  must pass a comprehensive examination.   All students must demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language in order to be recommended for graduation.   Language proficiency is demonstrated by summarizing a brief article from a foreign language source into English.   Students for whom English is not their first language or are certified linguists are exempt from the foreign language proficiency requirement.   Final determination of exemption is made by the Department Chair.    

*Topic may be repeated if different and with approval of Program Director.
