Campaign Events Hosted by Alums
"St. Mary’s University was very good to me while I was in school, and I see my involvement in the campaign as a way to give back. It’s also a way to further the educational and service principles that St. Mary’s instilled in me when I was a student." —Michael J.Dipp Jr. (B.B.A. ’64,M.A. ’67)To reach the $23 million campaign goal, and especially the $5.7 million needed to meet $6 million in matching funds from Bexar County, alumni are hosting campaign events in their home cities this fall. The first extremely successful event was held at the Rockport home of Campaign Co-Chair Dave (B.B.A. ’68) and Paula Dickson in late August. The following week a second successful event occurred in El Paso, hosted by Michael (B.B.A. ’64, M.A. ’67) and Mary Ann Dipp. Mike Dipp was a force of nature as a student atSt. Mary’s, serving as student body president and initiating such memorable activities as the annual basketball “Dribbleathon” to the St. Ed’s game in Austin. Mike, like other alumni that are helping with the campaign, continues to support the mission of St. Mary’s.
More events are planned for the fall, including one in Dallas hosted by Michael (B.B.A. ’82, M.B.A. ’87) and Flora (B.B.A. ’82) Hernandez, and another in Victoria hosted by brothers Tali (B.A. ’77) and Glenn (B.B.A. ’78) Villafranca.
