University Development

The University Development arm of the University Advancement Division raises funds for the priorities that support St. Mary's mission as identified by the University's leadership.

University Development staff members carry out a variety of duties that support St. Mary's fundraising goals, including: solicitation of capital campaign, restricted and unrestricted annual gifts; prospect research, database maintenance and enhancement; cultivation and stewardship of donors; gift reporting and coordination; and assisting donors with planned giving and estate planning, among others.

Carla Aguilar Carla comes to the Office of Development from Merced Housing Texas where she was responsible for grant proposal and newsletter writing. As Stewardship Officer, she oversees donor recognition events which include coordinating the annual President's Dinner and President's Reception. She also manages the President's Ambassadors, a student organization whose members serve as hosts on behalf of the President at special events.

While a student at St. Mary's University, Carla was actively involved in academic, service, and spiritual activities such as The Rattler newspaper, President's Ambassadors, Emerging Leaders, church musical ensemble, Memorial High School tutor and Amnesty International.

Mary Almanza Mary has been with St. Mary's University since 1986, and has worked in Development since 1989. She joined Advancement Services as the Gift Reporting Coordinator in 1998. In this role, Mary maintains the tracking system for all gift activity to the University, verifies gift postings, and prepares donor acknowledgments, as well as the annual honor roll of donors. Mary sends out monthly pledge reminders and maintains permanent gift records and files. She also supervises student staff and coordinates the daily operations of the office.

Jesse Casares Jessie has more than 20 years of experience in higher education, most of which were spent directly involved in advancement functions. She joined St. Mary's University in the role of Prospect Research and Database Coordinator in 2007.

Jessie supports the University's advancement efforts by identifying and researching prospective donors. Her primary responsibility is maintaining current biographical records and contact information for alumni and donors. Jessie also creates database reports and extracts for mailings and invitations. She also contributes to the Gold & Blue magazine by providing class notes information on alumni.

Jessie is an active member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals-San Antonio Chapter.

Jessica Harbin Jessica comes to the Office of Development as a graduate of St. Mary's University with a degree in English-communication arts. As a Development Officer, Jessica works closely with the deans as well as faculty and staff to promote funding opportunities to alumni and other constituents. She assists the development team in raising funds for scholarships, programs, and capital improvements based on the funding priorities of the University.

As a student, Jessica was a member of the women's golf team where she earned All-American and Academic All-American honors. She was actively involved with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee where she helped to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation as well as planning and executing events such as the St. Mary's Annual Athletics Banquet.

Ben Hart Ben has worked in the Office of Development since 1997. As Director of Development Programs and Operations, he provides leadership and accountability for the office's day-to-day operations and oversees development officers, corporate and foundation giving, donor stewardship, the St. Mary's Fund, planned giving and administrative support. Ben serves as the chair of the University's Solicitation Committee.

Ben is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

Dolly Huck Dolly previously worked at St. Mary's in what was then known as Computer Services from 1970 to 1975. She rejoined the University in the Office of Development in 1994 and has been the Gift Recording Coordinator in Advancement Services since 1998. Dolly processes all gift postings, pledges and matching gift forms for the University. She also prepares and maintains cashier journals and deposit records.

Ronan McAshan Ronan joined St. Mary's University as the Prospect Research Coordinator in 1996, and became the Director of Advancement Services in 1998. His prior work experience includes 10 years as a real estate appraiser, followed by management roles in financial reporting and reconciliation, compliance, and due diligence for secondary market investors.

As Director of Advancement Services, Ronan is responsible for the management of donor and alumni records, processing, receipting and reporting of gifts to the University, pledge billing and reconciliation, maintaining financial records and preparing gift income reports. He also manages the prospect research process and donor prospect tracking system. Ronan currently serves as the Chairman of the Database Standards Committee and was the University Advancement teamleader for the recent conversion of the enterprise resource system.

Leticia Ramirez Letty joined University Development in 2003. She brings to St. Mary's many years of administrative support experience working in a university setting. Letty is currently the administrative and stewardship assistant. She works closely with the Stewardship Officer coordinating special events, managing the President's Ambassadors program and providing administrative support in the Office of Development.

Matt Schultz Matt has been employed at St. Mary's since 1993. Prior to joining the Advancement Services staff in 2006, he was the business and telecommunications manager for St. Mary's Physical Plant.

Matt supports the University's advancement efforts by identifying and researching prospective donors. He utilizes print, electronic and Internet-based resources to assess a prospect's philanthropic interests, giving capacity, affinity and readiness. Matt also prepares prospect biographical profiles and updates alumni, donor and prospect records.

Rosemary Segura Rosemary joined the University Development staff in September 2008. She has been with St. Mary's since 2002, first as an office clerk in Residence Life, and then as the office manager for University Communications. Additionally, she possesses experience working with government agencies, as well as with other nonprofit organizations such as Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio.

As the development officer for the St. Mary's Fund, Rosemary oversees annual fundraising initiatives including: Phonathon, Senior Class Gift, Campus Campaign, and alumni solicitations. She is currently pursuing a degree in philosophy.

Robin Seth Robin comes to the Office of Development from Goldman, Sachs and Co. in New York where she worked with the Experience Hire Recruiting team. She earned a bachelors degree in economics and speech communication and a masters degree with specialization in human resources and marketing, both at St. Mary's. She was also a part of various organizations including Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity, Omicron Delta Epsilon Economics Honor Society, and Lambda Pi Eta Communications Honor Society.

Jennifer researches and prepares grant applications for special projects as needed. She bring to the position experience in grant writing and grant management from the fields of higher education and health care. She has worked on grant projects in both New York and Texas. In addition to her work for University Development, Jennifer is an adjunct professor in the history department. She is proud to be from a family that includes seven other St. Mary’s alumni.

Teri Villa Teri joined the Office of Development in 1997. She provides administrative support to the Director of Development Programs and Operations and the development officers. Teri is responsible for the development budget and all personnel leave management. She also assists with the faculty and staff St. Mary's Fund campaign, special activities and stewardship events.
