Priority Registration

A period during the semester in which students meet with their academic adviser to register for courses for the upcoming semester. Registration dates are assigned to students according to the student’s classification (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior). Students should set up an advising appointment during their assigned registration dates. For registration eligibility, students must clear all transcript and financial holds. If a student does not register during priority registration, he or she must wait until the day before the new semester begins to register for classes.

Gateway

Gateway is a St. Mary's online Web application that allows students to access personal information found in their student file. Through Gateway students can review course schedules, adviser information, financial aid and billing information, and grade reports.

Drop Dates

The academic calendar lists two days per semester that are the dates on which classes may be dropped. The first date listed allows a student to withdraw from a course and automatically receive a “W” (withdrawal). The student would have a “W” listed, instead of a grade, for the course on his or her grade report and transcript. This does not affect the student’s grade point average. The second drop date listed on the academic calendar also allows the student to withdraw from a course. In this case, the professor of the course decides whether the student receives a “W” or a “WF” (withdrawal with failure). If the student is failing the course, the professor can assign the student a “WF,” which is calculated into the student’s grade point average as an “F.”
