Glenn Hughes Chosen as Fulbright Scholar

St. Mary’s University Professor of Philosophy Glenn Hughes, Ph.D., will travel to Norway in the fall to study the principle of inalienable human dignity through a grant from the Fulbright Scholar Program. Hughes will be working at the International Peace Research Institute of Oslo (PRIO), where he will do research on the philosophical foundations of the principle of universal and inalienable human dignity. He is one of about 800 U.S. faculty and professionals selected for Fulbright awards this year by the U.S. State Department and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

382 Graduate in Spring Commencement

Award-winning journalist John Quiñones, co-anchor of ABC News’ Primetime and a graduate of St. Mary’s University, was the keynote speaker for the University’s spring commencement on May 10. A total of 382 walked the stage during the exercises. That total includes 281 who received a bachelor’s degree and another 101 who received a master’s degree. This was the 156th commencement exercises for St. Mary’s.

Full Scholarships Available for Catholic Educators

St. Mary’s University this fall will begin offering full scholarships to graduate students with the potential to be outstanding administrators in the local Catholic schools. In an effort to continue increasing the quality and effectiveness of educators in Catholic schools, St. Mary’s is offering up to 10 full scholarships a year for qualified candidates to the Catholic School Leadership Program, which offers a master’s degree tailored for Catholic school administrators. In exchange for the full scholarship, students commit to working in local Catholic schools for at least four years after graduation.
