Environmental Science HAZWOPER Training

This course is Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training related to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety requirements that employers must meet to conduct different types of activities involving hazardous waste as defined by OSHA. HAZWOPER training and certification is required for any employees who are exposed or potentially exposed to hazardous substances and are engaged in:

  • Clean-up operations involving hazardous substances at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites;
  • Clean-up operations at sites covered by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 (RCRA);
  • Voluntary clean-up operations at sites recognized by federal, state, local, or other governmental body as uncontrolled hazardous waste sites;
  • Operations involving hazardous wastes at treatment, storage, and disposal facilities regulated under RCRA by the Federal government;
  • Emergency response operations for releases of hazardous substances.

The 40-hours of instruction, covers the areas of knowledge required by OSHA and provides certification that a student has sucessfully completed training. The certification attaches to the student, not the employer. Environmental companies are increasingly requiring applicants hold a current 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
