CEUs and Certifications

The purpose of continuing education is to encourage certified individuals to stay abreast of evolving knowledge and skills in the profession and, in doing so, to promote the ongoing competency of those certified. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and certificates are available to individuals who seek further professional development. If a course qualifies for CEUs, it will be noted at the end of the course description in the schedule of classes.

CEUs

CEUs are nationally recognized measures of lifelong learning credit (not degree credit) and are based on the number of contact hours taken for a course. CEUs cannot be applied toward a degree program, but they can be useful in maintaining certification in certain careers. They may also be useful in documenting continuing professional education for an employer. Criteria for CEUs vary and are usually based on attendance or competencies or both.

Certificates

Certificates of completion or certificates of attendance are available for several continuing education classes. The instructor for the course will explain the requirements for a certificate in that class.
