About the Programs

Continuing Studies and Professional Development offer 10-month programs in Interior Design, Advanced Interior Design, and Advanced Kitchen and Bath Design.

Interior Design and Advanced Interior Design

The Interior Design profession provides services encompassing research, development, and implementation of plans and designs of interior environment to improve the quality of life, increase productivity, and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. The interior design process follows a systemic and coordinated methodology. Research, analysis, and integration of information into the creative process result in an appropriate interior environment. Practitoners may perform any or all of following services: programming, conceptual design, design development, contract administration, and evaluation.

St. Mary's University houses an American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) student chapter. Our interior design certificate program meets the necessary requirements for ASID student members to progress through ASID membership.

Advanced Interior Design

Advanced Kitchen and Bath Design

The Kitchen and Bath program combines skill-building and creativity in courses such as Residential Construction, Business Management and Forums, and Kitchen and Bath Planning. Students gain experience in the field of design and develop relationships with clients, contractors, and professionals working in the industry.

The advanced program uses the standards and references of the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) and uses all NKBA texts. St. Mary's University is seeking NKBA accreditation for this program.

Various seminars and workshops relating to the field of design are also offered throughout the year.
