The St. Mary’s Learning and Leadership Development Center is dedicated to combating illiteracy in the community by offering classes in English as a Second Language, Reading, Writing, Adult Basic Education, G.E.D. Preparation, Computer Assisted Instruction, Spanish ABE for persons who are illiterate in their primary language, and Citizenship.

The Center serves more than 2,500 adults each year in collaboration with the San Antonio Independent School District Adult Education Cooperative, which provides the instructional staff, materials and teacher training. The City of San Antonio is responsible for student recruitment, retention and planning.
