Alumni Mentoring Program

Building Bridges to Success partners current St. Mary's students with alumni who have gained experience in the workplace.

The Mentoring Program:

  • builds relationships between the business and educational worlds
  • enhances the workplace
  • supports the commitment to education in the region
  • makes a difference in the community

Students

  • valuable guidance, advice, and support
  • networking potential for job shadowing and internship opportunities
  • developing professionalism and self-confidence
  • assistance in the transition from school to the world of work

Mentors

  • personal growth through sharing ideas and information
  • developing a better appreciation for your work and career
  • serving others in the Marianist tradition
  • supporting your alma mater

The Mentoring Relationship is based on:

  • openness
  • a willingness to learn and share
  • mutual trust and respect
  • encouragement

Mentors and Students connect by:

  • participating in discussions on career exploration and job skills
  • attending a professional meeting
  • maintaining regular phone and/or email contact
  • participating in career development

Mentors are also invited to:

  • lead a job shadow experience, conduct a work site tour, or offer an internship
  • be a guest speaker during Civic Engagement and Career Development Center events
