| Noon–2 p.m. | Sonia Kovalevsky Mathematics Day University Center, Conference Room A St. Mary's University will host 75 young women from the 7th grade class of the Young Women's Leadership Academy (YWLA), an all-girls public middle school located in San Antonio, Texas. The day is a celebration of Sonia Kovalevsky, first woman to be awarded Ph.D. in Mathematics, and her pioneering career as a mathematician. The participants will be led in various activities, including hands-on experiences and talks given by local women who incorporate mathematics into their careers. This event is funded through a grant from the Association for Women in Mathematics and National Science Foundation. Coordinated by the Mathematics Department. (By invitation only) |
