St. Mary's University Students Do It Again
This past week, twelve St. Mary�s University students participated and competed in the International Business Plan Program sponsored by the Free Trade Alliance. The competition consisted of 22 universities from around the world. A St. Mary�s team of five of our students won First Place in the undergraduate division. They each took home a $1,000 gift prize. This team consisted of : Andrej Klipa, Celina Garcia, Eric Escamilla, Luis Montealegre and Alexia Dabdoub. The second place team included two of St. Mary�s students and they each received a cash prize of $500 each. Their names are : Paolo Retes and Mariangela Zavala.

Additionally, the school awards its outstanding faculty members. In 2011, Thomas Madison, Ph.D., professor of accounting, received the Outstanding Volunteerism and Community Service for his leadership in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. David Sommer, Ph.D., professor of financial services and risk management, received the 1923 Commemorative Award for Outstanding Faculty Research. Stephanie Ward, Ph.D., and Guillermo Martinez also received Outstanding Teaching awards.
Texas Business Hall of Fame Awards Scholarship to St. Mary's Student
Stephanie Baumgart (B.B.A. '10) received the prestigious Texas Business Hall of Fame scholarship in November 2011. The scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated entrepreneurial achievement and leadership in their academic and professional lives.
Exceptional students from across Texas receive scholarships from the Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation. Now in its 29th year, the Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation honors members of the state�s business community whose visions and careers have helped to place Texas at the forefront of the 21st century economy and seeks out the future entrepreneurs and leaders that will allow Texas to maintain this presence in the future.
The Texas Business Hall of Fame awards scholarships annually to students from participating Texas universities. The Foundation's mission is to sow seeds for our future by acknowledging and helping underwrite the promise that is being demonstrated by Texas business students. We accomplish this by assisting future business leaders pursuing their degrees in Texas schools by funding a scholarship award program.
National Collegiate Conference
St. Mary�s University Student Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) participated in the National Collegiate Conference, St. Louis, Missouri last month. Four BGSB students, Jeana Montesdeoca, Eric Narvaez, Jose Placencia, and Victoria Reyes, competed in multiple events, including Database Design, Systems Analysis and Design, and Microsoft Office Solutions. They won honorable mention in the Graphic Communications competition, bringing home a ribbon! They also designed a fantastic banner.
