Richard J. Bauer, CFA, Ph.D., is the author of Genetic Algorithms and Investment Strategies (1994) and co-author (with Dr. Julie Dahlquist) of Technical Market Indicators (1999), both published by John Wiley & Sons. Technical Market Indicators has also been translated into Chinese and is currently being distributed in Asia. Recent publications include "Market Timing and Roulette Wheels" (co-authored with Dr. Julie Dahlquist), which appeared in the Jan/Feb 2001 issue of "Financial Analysts Journal," and a chapter in the Book of Investing Rules (2001). His other research has appeared in a variety of academic journals.
Bauer has been quite active in the San Antonio Society of Financial Analysts serving as president (1996-97) and in other leadership positions. At St. Mary's, he has served as associate dean (1994-97) and M.B.A. director (1992-94) of the Bill Greehey School of Business, and as president of the St. Mary's University Faculty Senate (1998-99). He is a member of the American Finance Association, Financial Management Association and the Southwestern Finance Association. Prior to earning his doctorate, Bauer worked as a manager and owner of small businesses. He is an active member of First Presbyterian Church in San Antonio.

Prior to entering academia, Professor Edward G. Cole was an officer in the United States Army Medical Department and hospital administrator. He has taught for the U.S. Army/Baylor University program and at Trinity University. Prior to returning to academics in 1989 when he joined the St. Mary's University faculty, he operated his own market research firm.
Cole assumed the directorship of the Small Business Institute at St. Mary's University in 1992; his research interest is the application of management and marketing theory in a small business environment.

K. Matthew Gilley, Ph.D., is the Bill Greehey Chair in Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility in the Greehey School of Business. He holds a Ph.D. in strategic management from the University of Texas at Arlington. Prior to joining the Greehey School, Gilley served on the faculty of the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University and on the business faculty at James Madison University.
Gilley's teaching centers on ethics, corporate social responsibility and business strategy. He was awarded the Regents’ Distinguished Teaching Award and the Greiner Teaching Award at OSU and was nominated for other teaching awards multiple times. He has consulted corporations and government agencies on issues of business ethics, social responsibility and strategic management. He is a member of the Greater San Antonio Ethics & Compliance Roundtable.
His research interests include the relationship between executive compensation and ethical/unethical behavior, corporate governance and outsourcing. Mathew Joseph, Ph.D., is the Emil C.E. Jurica Distinguished Professor of Marketing at the Bill Greehey School of Business. He has taught at universities across the world including the University of South Alabama, Universidade Nova Lisboa in Portugal, Swinburne University in Australia, and the University of Waikato in New Zealand. Joseph completed his Bachelor and Master degrees in Missouri and Ph.D. in New Zealand.
Joseph is a member of several professional associations such as the Academy of Marketing Science, Society for Marketing Advances, American Marketing Association, and the Academy of International Business. He has served as the program chair and track chair for the SMA and AMS Conferences, including the World Marketing Congress for the last several years. He has also been a reviewer and presenter for a number of professional and academic conferences. He is currently the President-Elect for the Society for Marketing Advances after having served as Executive Director and Vice President for Membership. Joseph also serves on the editorial board of several journals.

After working in public accounting for several years, Gail Kaciuba, Ph.D., began teaching accounting full time, and eventually attended Northwestern University to earn a Ph.D. in Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences. The mathematical economics Ph.D. couldn't keep her from teaching what she liked best – accounting. She has taught accounting at DePaul University in Chicago, University of Illinois at Chicago, Midwestern State University, and Texas Tech University.
Kaciuba wrote a study guide and created interactive power point presentations for classroom use that emphasize active learning concepts. She develops a great deal of her own teaching materials that emphasize, in addition to the technical knowledge of the course, core competencies included in the core competency framework. The assessment of these competencies is a frequent topic of Kaciuba’s presentations at academic conferences. During her tenure at DePaul University, Kaciuba was awarded the School of Accountancy’s Faculty Excellence Award.
Her research interests include game theoretic analyses of the oil and gas industry, improvements in accounting education, and activity-based costing in health care. Kaciuba was a member of a panel of experts before HCFA (the arm of Congress that administrated Medicare) to discuss improving the methodology used for computing reimbursements to physicians. She has spoken to numerous physicians’ associations and at the American Medical Association on this subject. Kaciuba’s academic articles have appeared in journals such as Journal of the American Taxation Association, Issues in Accounting Education, The Journal of Accounting Education, The Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Accountancy and Healthcare Financial Management.

Tom Madison, Ph.D., joined the faculty of the Bill Greehey School of Business in 1998. His primary teaching interests are in managerial and financial accounting. Dr. Madison has taught both accounting and business administration programs in the BGSB Masters of Business Administration program. In addition, Dr. Madison has been a member of teaching teams with members of the St. Mary's graduate program in International Relations for immersion courses in economic development in Nicaragua and Bangladesh.
Dr. Madison has published articles in Advances in Management Accounting, The Financial Review, Journal of Entrepreneurship Education, the Journal of the Academy of Business Education, Oil & Gas Energy Quarterly, Review of Business, Issues in Information Systems, and The Journal of Volunteer Administration.
Dr. Madison is a member of the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of Public Accouintants, and the national Community Tax Coalition. Dr. Madison serves on the board of the Community Development Loan Fund and coordinates the St. Mary's University Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.

Tom Madison, Ph.D., joined the faculty of the Bill Greehey School of Business in 1998. His primary teaching interests are in managerial and financial accounting. Dr. Madison has taught both accounting and business administration programs in the BGSB Masters of Business Administration program. In addition, Dr. Madison has been a member of teaching teams with members of the St. Mary's graduate program in International Relations for immersion courses in economic development in Nicaragua and Bangladesh.

His primary research interests include links between planning process characteristics and firm performance, executive succession and shareholder wealth, international management structure and communications, media ethics, and the private equity industry's role in mergers and acquisitions.

A member of the United States Foreign Service since 1962, Ambassador Scassa served in Africa, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East. He served as Executive Director of the Bureau of Inter-American Affairs from 1986-1990, and concurrently served at the Deputy Assistant Secretary level. In 1990, President Bush nominated Mr. Scassa as Ambassador to Belize, a post he held for nearly four years. He served as Assistant to U.N. Ambassador Madeleine Albright. Ambassador Scassa retired from the Foreign Service in 1997. He originally joined St. Mary's University in 1994 as Diplomat-in-Residence, and served on the faculty until spring 2000. S. Sam Sedki, Ph.D., joined the faculty of the Bill Greehey School of Business in 1981 as a professor of accounting; and he served as chairman of the accounting department for eight years. Sedki has held various national and regional offices within the American Accounting Association, twice serving as vice president and program chair. He has been vice president of the Administrators of Accounting Group and is one of the founders of the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association.
He also chaired various committees of the Financial Executive's International, serving as treasurer of FEI (1995-96), secretary (1996-1997), vice president (1997-1998) and president (1998-99). Sedki has held various national and regional offices within the American Accounting Association, twice serving as vice president and program chair. He has been vice president of the Administrators of Accounting Group and is one of the founders of the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association.
He also chaired various committees of the Financial Executive's International, serving as treasurer of FEI (1995-96), secretary (1996-1997), vice president (1997-1998) and president (1998-99). Sedki, author of the Financial Accounting Study Guide, has published in national and regional referred journals and proceedings and is editor of the Journal of the Academy of Business Administration.
Co-recipient of the 1994 Douglass Award for Innovative Teaching, Sedki's teaching interest is in financial accounting.

Tanuja Singh is the Dean of the Bill Greehey School of Business. She holds a doctorate in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Prior to joining the Greehey School of Business, Singh served as Chair and Professor in the College of Business at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. She was also on the business faculty at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne.
Singh's teaching, research, and consulting interests include global and cross-cultural marketing strategy, digital marketing, and public policy issues in marketing. She was awarded the Outstanding International Educator Award at Northern Illinois University in recognition of significant contribution to International Education. She has published over 40 papers in internationally acclaimed journals, and national and international conferences. David W. Sommer, Ph.D., joined St. Mary’s University in 2007 as the Charles E. Cheever Chair of Risk Management. He received his B.B.A. degree from St. Mary’s University, and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. For the twelve years prior to his return to St. Mary’s, he was a faculty member in risk management and insurance at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business.
During his career, Sommer has taught at the undergraduate, MBA, Executive MBA, and Ph.D. levels in the areas of corporate risk management and employee benefits. He has received a number of teaching honors, including the Terry College Teacher of the Year award.

Stephanie Ward, Ph.D., joined the faculty of Bill Greehey School of Business in 2004. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Houston where she taught Organizational Behavior and Human Resources courses. While at the University of Houston, she received research and teaching awards for her work as a doctoral student. At St. Mary's, she teaches Human Resources courses in Training and Development, Compensation, Employee Relations as well as the Seminar in Human Resource Management. Ward is also the Director of the Greehey Scholars Program in the Bill Greehey School of Business.
Ward's research explores questions about rewards, psychological contracts, and organizational justice. Currently, she is studying the importance of individual differences on pay system attractiveness, the employer's role in psychological contract formation, and the effect of promise keeping on performance. Her research has been published in Human Resource Management Review and World at Work Journal.
Ward is an active member of the Academy of Management, San Antonio Human Resource Management Association, Society of Human Resource Management, Southern Management Association, Southwest Management Association, and World at Work Association. In 2004, Ward was the Academy of Management's New Doctoral Student Consortium Executive Chair. She also participates as a conference reviewer for the Academy of Management and the Southern Management Association.
Ward is a native Texan, but travels near and far. Some of her more memorable excursions include spending a year as an exchange student in South Africa, kayaking Newfoundland's North Atlantic, seeing Orca whales rub on the beaches of Telegraph Cove, and watching the sunset from the Grand Canyon's Yuma Point. Ward enjoys kayaking, hiking, biking, camping and baseball with her husband, Randy, their son, Zachary, and family dog Buster. Included on Ward's to-do list are hiking the Appalachian Trail and the Great Wall of China, visiting Antarctica, seeing each whale species in its natural habitat, and camping in every state park in Texas.

Orion J. Welch, Ph.D., is the associate dean of the Bill Greehey School of Business, and joined joined the school in 1995 as an assistant professor of information systems. He holds a doctorate in management information systems from the University of Memphis and a masters in management from the Air Force Institute of Technology. His research publications include ten academic journal articles and 14 papers presented at national and regional academic conferences.
His current research interests are in the areas of supply chain management and telecommunications issues. Prior to coming to San Antonio, Welch held a number of positions with the Department of Defense, including Director of Telecommunications and Information Systems at the Defense Logistic Agency in Memphis and staff representative to the National Communications Security Board in Washington.
He was the Dierdre Hawkins Richards Professor of Entrepreneurship for 1999-2000 and received the Distinguished Faculty Award for the Bill Greehey School of Business for 2005-2006. He is an active member of the Decision Sciences Institute and the International Association of Computer Information Systems.
