Meredith Cockerell

Athletic Trainer Meredith Cockerell

Meredith Cockerell is in her second year as the athletic trainer at St. Mary’s. The Seguin native comes to St. Mary’s after serving as an assistant athletic trainer at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich. While at MSU she received her masters degree in kinesiology, with an emphasis in athletic training.

At MSU she assisted in the daily running of the athletic training room and worked with the Michigan State women’s basketball team in the 2007 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, as well as the wrestling team.

In addition to her work at MSU she served as the Everett High School Athletic Trainer while in East Lansing. She oversaw the athletic training needs for 14 boys and girls sports at the school. She also worked at the Ingham Regional Medical Center during that time, assisting the center with its work at various high school sports events.

Cockerell graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown in May of 2006 with a bachelor of arts in Kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training. She holds various certifications, including American Heart Association Health Care Provider, American Heart Association First Aid Responder, American Heart Health Care Instructor, MHSAA Skinfold Assessor, Accredited Clinical Instructor and is a licensed athletic trainer.

Graduate Assistant Trainer Racheal Henshaw

Graduate Assistant Trainer Rachel Henshaw

Racheal Henshaw is in her second year as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for St. Mary’s University.

Prior to her time at St. Mary’s, Henshaw was a student assistant athletic trainer at the University of the Incarnate Word. While at UIW she assisted with the men’s basketball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, softball, volleyball, baseball and cross country programs. She received the Athletic Training Peer Leadership Award, was a member of the Dean’s List and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.

She also worked at Judson and Warren High Schools as a student athletic trainer. At Judson High School she assisted with the basketball team, the cheerleading squad and dance teams. At Warren High School worked with the football and soccer teams.

She is certified in American Red Cross CPR, First Aid and has her Personal Training Certification.

Graduate Assistant Trainer Francisco Serrata

Graduate Assistant Trainer Francisco Serrata

Francisco Serrata is in his second year as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for St. Mary’s University.

Prior to his time at St. Mary’s, he was a student athletic trainer at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. While at GU he worked with the football, men’s basketball, cross country and track and field programs. He was named Most Improved Athletic Training Student at Graceland in 2006.

Serrata was a member of the Graceland men’s soccer team for four years and was a member of the Yellowjackets National Champion team in 2006. He was a member of National Honor Society.

Serrata, who is a native of Los Fresnos, is certified in American Red Cross CPR, is a certified Lifeguard and was a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association. He graduated from Graceland with a Bachelor of Arts in Athletic Training.
