Head Coach Ian Ward

Ian Ward is in his third season as the head coach for the Rattler men's and women's tennis programs. He also serves as the assistant men's basketball coach.

Ward, a graduate of St. Mary's, took over the reins of the program for the 2007-2008 season and led the Rattlers to increases in the win total of both the men's and women's squads.

Last season the Rattler men posted their highest win total since the 2001-2002 season at 7-9, while the women won six matches for the second straight season and again advanced ot the Heartland Conference Tournament semifinals. Three Rattlers were named All-Heartland Conference.

In just his first season with the Rattlers he took both teams to the semifinals of the Heartland Conference Tennis Tournament and the teams combined to win seven more matches than the previous season. Rodrigo Lacayo, Troy Neighbors and Hayley Harris were named All-Heartland Conference for their play last season.

On the basketball court he has helped the Rattlers post 64 wins, the Heartland Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament during the 2007-2008 season.

Prior to returning to San Antonio, Ward was the varsity boy's basketball coach at Life Christian in LaMarque for four years.

Ward played for the Rattler men's basketball team from 1994 to 1996, seeing action in 84 games. He scored 472 points and pulled down 520 rebounds, an average of 6.2 per game for his career. During his three years with the team, the Rattlers had a combined 63-27 record and advanced twice to the NAIA National Tournament.

A native of LaMarque, he attended high school in Irving where he was coached by St. Mary's University Hall of Famer Bob "Snake" LeGrand.

Ward is married to the former Marissa Vick. He has two children, Alexis and Isiah.
