The St. Mary's University Cheerleaders perform at halftime of the St. Mary's home basketball games. The cheer team provides great opportunities for St. Mary's students. It is a fun way to meet new people and get involved on campus. The cheerleaders are financially supported through the University.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a full time enrolled or accepted student at the time of try-outs
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Must have health insurance
  • Must pass a standard university physical

Financial Information

The university provides:

  • uniforms
  • poms
  • promotional spirit items
  • meals and travel for away games and tournaments

Cheerleaders must also participate in fund raising opportunities.

2009 Tryouts

  • Tryouts for Current St. Mary’s Students: March 29, 2009 from 1 to 5 pm in the AACC.
  • Tryouts for Incoming Freshmen: April 25, 2009 in the AACC from 12:30-5:00 in the AACC.
  • Individuals must be able to commit to the 2009-2010 academic year in order to tryout

    Required Elements

  • You must turn in at tryouts the Sprit Team Application and Professor/Faculty Evaluation forms located at the bottom of this page. In addition, you must fill out a tryout waiver during registration.
  • Highest skill of tumbling pass highly recommended
  • Jumps: Toe touch, right herkie &left herkie (females only)
  • Stunts: an extension (if male, partner stunting highly recommended) and liberty are required, any other stunts are beneficial

    Evaluated On:

  • motions, stunts, voice projection
  • jumps, spirit
  • tumbling
  • overall appearance/body symmetry
  • ability to learn and retain material

    Dance and cheer taught at tryouts Video Tryouts:

  • If trying out by video, you must include the following:
  • Extension (if male, partner stunting highly recommended), Liberty, toe touch, left herkie, right herkie, highest skill of tumbling pass highly recommended, a cheer, and a dance (no dance for males)
