May 2004 AccoladesRev. Bernard J. Lee, S.M., Th.D., assistant chancellor and professor of Theology, has published a new book, “The Beating of Great Wings: A Worldly Spirituality for Active, Apostolic Communities.” Twenty-Third Publications states the book is about recovering and renewing religious life and rebuilding and reinventing it, setting it upon different, nontraditional foundation stones. Lee reflects on the nature of charism and emphasizes the need for Scripture and the Eucharist in the community. The subtitle suggests the book’s theme: an approach to community and mission that finds its resources and lives its tradition fully planted in the middle of the city. Bernard D. Reams Jr., Law, was the Centennial Distinguished Lecturer at Lynchburg College in Virginia where he spoke last April on “Eugenics and Human Experimentation in the 21st Century: Reflections on the 75th Anniversary of Buck v. Bell.” Reams is a member of the class of 1965 at Lynchburg College, which is celebrating its centennial year. Jacqueline Dansby, Ph.D., Upward Bound, is one of 75 women leaders from across the United States who has been selected to the 2004 class of Leadership America. In this capacity, Dansby will participate in a yearlong program with other accomplished and nationally prominent decision makers, as well as content experts from business, government, education and nonprofit organizations in the 2004 American Issues Forum. Sessions will be held in Dallas, Washington D.C., and New York. Carol Hewson, University Ministry, has been named associate director of University Ministry. For the past three years, Hewson has served in Faith Formation, which includes the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and the Confirmation Sacramental Preparation programs. Hewson graduated from St. Mary’s in 2002 with a master’s degree in Pastoral Ministry. Her new expanded role at University Ministry includes more administrative duties and representing the director as a delegate at various University events, which will allow the University Ministry Director Rev. Terry Weik, S.M., the opportunity to direct more pastoral care on campus. Will Rice, Law, was honored by the Texas Tech Law Review on April 3 with the Outstanding Fifth Circuit Survey Article Award for High-Quality Legal Writing. |
