January 2006 Accolades

Gwendolyn Diaz, Ph.D., English, recently delivered a lecture titled “Metaphysical Phenomena in the Fiction of Contemporary Argentine Writers” at the prestigious Fundacion Internactional Jorge Luis Borges in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Her article, “Apunte Sobre Sandra Cisneros/A Profile of Sandra Cisneros,” appeared in the journal, PRISMA, which is published by the Fundacion Internacional J.L. Borges Press.

While in Buenos Aires, Diaz also conducted research toward the biography of Elvira Orphee, a distinguished Argentine novelist who has been called the Frida Khalo of Argentine letters. Diaz was able to visit with Ms. Orphee, who is known to be a recluse. The novelist proposed that Diaz be the one to write her biography. The work is in progress.

Will Elliott, Advancement Services, has been named vice president of the Southwest Chapter of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement. APRA-Southwest provides opportunities for education and professional development for advancement researchers and other fund raisers throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and New Mexico.

Chief Paul Glowacki, University Police, recently received the Bill G. Daniels Outstanding Administrator Award from the Texas Association of College and University Police Administrators. The award recognizes individuals who exhibit exemplary performance in administration to enhance the professional standards of law enforcement.

Andy Hernandez, 21st Century Leadership Center, was invited to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Greenleaf Center for Servant-Leadership. The Greenleaf Center, originally was founded in 1964 by Robert K. Greenleaf, promotes a new approach to leadership, structure and decision making, emphasizing service to others, a holistic approach to work, promoting a sense of community and the sharing of power in making decisions.
