February 2004 AccoladesRosalind V. Alderman, associate dean of students, and Karlos Ramirez, director of Student Activities, presented “Keeping the Purpose in Mind: How to Do It All as a New Professional on a Small Campus” at the annual meeting of the Association of Fraternity Advisors. AFA also recognized Alderman by presenting her with the Distinguished Service Award. Alderman has served the association in several roles, most recently as vice president for publications and information services. According to AFA, her work with the association’s quarterly magazine, Perspectives, was critical to its evolution and her serve on AFA workgroups and thinking teams have made Alderman, a member of the Phi Mu Fraternity, a respected leader within the association. An article, “Portals to the Past,” co-authored by Diane M. Duesterhoeft, Blume Library, and Trish Keogh, was published in the November 2003 issue of American Libraries. The article describes the library’s preservation of the President’s Peace Commission symposia through videotaping and cataloging the videos as part of the library’s collection. Jacqueline O. Dansby, Ph.D., Upward Bound, recently served as a panelist during the African American Leadership Institute hosted by the Alamo Chamber of Commerce. Her topic was “Education in San Antonio.” Maureen Ebben, Ph.D., Communication Studies, was a presenter at the National Communication Association’s annual conference held in November 2003 in Miami Beach, Fla. She spoke on the topic, “Intervention as Empowerment: Facilitating Female Students’ Voices in the Academy.” |
