The Drama Department, through its academic program, mounts productions in Reinbolt Theatre in the basement of Reinbolt Hall. This theatre seats 111 patrons who view a wide elongated stage that thrusts from the proscenium arch. It encourages an intimate setting that invites a closer interaction between actor and audience. We have also utilized other campus venues through collaboration with other departments, such as the Music Department, and local theatre companies, such as the Shoestring Shakespeare Company, Aquila Theatre Company, and the former San Antonio Public Theatre. In these productions, we staged Dinner with Shakespeare: Winter’s Tales in the University Center, Everyman in Guadalupe Chapel and The Pirates of Penzance in the Treadaway Multi-Purpose Room (now Treadaway Recital Hall).
Reinbolt Theatre has also been identified as The Shoestring Cellar in which The Shoestring Players (with limited resources as the name suggests) produced many plays from 1959 to 1980s under the direction of Dr. Charles Myler, former chair of the Speech, Drama and Art Department. |
